The highlight

A real conversation, not a record button.

Most apps ask you to record an answer and wait. Examli's examiner speaks to you, listens, and asks the next question, so you practise thinking on your feet, the way the real interview feels.

  1. Part 14 to 5 min

    Interview

Familiar questions about home, work, studies and interests. Short, natural answers.

  2. Part 23 to 4 min

    Long turn

A cue card, one minute to make notes, then up to two minutes of talking on your own.

  3. Part 34 to 5 min

    Discussion

Deeper, more abstract follow-ups on the Part 2 topic. This is where band 7+ is won.

Assessed on the four speaking criteria

  • Fluency & coherence
  • Lexical resource
  • Grammatical range & accuracy
  • Pronunciation
The live speaking screen: the examiner's orb glows while it listens, with the microphone in the centre and a check button to finish.

The moment it clicks

After a full mock, the number you came for.

Your result opens on one big band and an honest verdict. Examli compares it with your target, your best and your last sitting, so it only celebrates when you've earned it, and tells you straight when you haven't.

  • Target reachedBand 7.0. That is your target.
  • Your best band yetBand 7.0. A new best.
  • Moving upUp 0.5 on your last sitting.
  • Down from last timeOne bad day is normal. Two is a pattern worth reading.

Then switch to Breakdown for the band shape of all four skills and feedback that names the fix.

Examli result screen: a Target reached badge, a large band 7.0, the headline Band 7.0. That is your target, section scores of Listening 7.5, Reading 7.0, Writing 6.5 and Speaking 7.0, and a performance summary naming Listening as strongest and Writing as the focus.
Examli home screen: latest estimated band 7.0, up 0.5 since the last mock, section bands for Listening 7.5, Reading 7.0, Writing 6.5 and Speaking 7.0, and a band trend chart from June to September.

Questions

Is this the official IELTS test?

No. Examli is an independent practice app. It follows the format and timing of IELTS Academic and marks against the public band descriptors, but every score is an estimate to guide your preparation, not an official result.

How accurate are the scores?

Treat them as a well-informed estimate, not a guarantee. Writing and Speaking are marked by AI against the public IELTS band descriptors, and Listening and Reading are scored from your answers. AI can mishear or misjudge, and a real examiner on the day may score you differently, so use Examli to find your weak spots and track progress, not to predict your exact result.

Does it cover IELTS General Training?

Not yet. Examli covers IELTS Academic, the version most universities and professional bodies ask for. If you're taking General Training, the Listening and Speaking practice still applies, but the Reading and Writing tasks are different.

How does the speaking examiner work?

When you reach Speaking, you tap Begin and the examiner talks with you out loud through all three parts. It asks follow-up questions, gives you a minute to prepare in Part 2 and keeps the real timing. Your answers are then assessed on the four speaking criteria.

What do I need?

An Android phone or iPhone, headphones if you have them, a quiet room and about 2 hours 45 minutes for a full mock. Speaking needs microphone access and an internet connection.

What happens to my voice recordings?

Recordings are used only to mark your attempt. Uploaded exam audio is deleted automatically after 7 days, and our AI providers aren't allowed to train on it. The Privacy Policy has the details.

What happens to my email if I join the waitlist?

It's encrypted before it's stored, so even we can only read it with a separate key. We use it once, to tell you when Examli opens. Every email has a link that deletes your details straight away.

When does Examli launch?

Android comes first and iPhone follows. Choose your phone when you join and we'll email you when Examli is ready for it. No newsletters, no spam. Anything else? Email support@examli.app.
